International NGO Financing

Bilateral and multilateral organizations, as well as international NGOs, contribute to family planning through grants or credits. Donors fund projects for a determinate period of time - most donor-funded projects have a life between 1 and 5 years.

USAID and UNFPA are the primary international donors of contraceptives in the DRC.

In 2010, USAID contributed an estimated $13.5 million to family planning, distributed among various agencies. From this, $6,828,209 was used for the procurement of contraceptives. UNFPA contributed with $915,654 for contraceptives.

The Department for International Development (DfID) has committed £148,000,000 for reproductive, maternal, and newborn health from 2011 to 2014. Their Access to Health Project (2006-2012) allocated a budget of £80,000,000, of which £8,000,000 was budgeted for reproductive health.
